Pontianak in pre-Rifts times, was part of the large island of Borneo.  The island became seperated during some violent earthquakes and tsunamis that shook the region during the first decades following the holocaust.  The area became devoid of human life during these turbulent first decades; however that would not remain the way.   However, the Malaysian vampires, known as Pontianak, would survive and managed to secure the island.  However, the were-tigers were their eternal enemy and always kept them from expanding past the island they were stranded on.  This eternal sparring match went on for centuries, with both sides also having to deal with other supernatural creatures which poured out of the Rifts. 

About fifty years ago, a new force came out of the Rifts, one which the Pontianak decided not to attack.  This being claimed that he was not out to harm them and wished to help them.  Aided by a powerful dragon and a mysterious race of four-armed beings, he created huge cities and helped the Pontianak begin to extermine the were-tigers who had hounded the Malaysian vampires for so long.
