These are the ley lines of Java.  Two key ley line junctions are Borobodur and Jakarta.  The huge temple at Borobodur is under the control of the Alliance and is arguably the most powerful ley line nexus in Java and one of the most powerful in Southeast Asia and the world.  Since the ley lines are connected between Borobodur and Jakarta, the Alliance has a means of attacking Dltni, the Machine Intelligence.   However, the flip side is the Dltni can try to drain the energy of the temple for his own terrible mechinations.  It's a gruelling battle for the Stone Mage in charge of Borobodur to keep this from happening, and to try and draw energy to use his own magic on.
